Four miles down the road from our house is a local farm called Sustainable Settings. It is a non-profit organization that focuses on sustainable agriculture and organic and green development. There is also an educational center that offers classes, workshops, and educational programs for all ages, related to sustainable gardening, organic farming & ranching, green living, permaculture, self-reliance, the arts and personal growth. We're looking forward to when Jack is old enough to attend these classes and maybe even work the grounds.
But, in the meantime, we brought him there for the morning to explore the equipment (the tractor was the main attraction), visit the lambs and chickens and see the baby chicks! Here are a few shots from the trip...
Riding the tractor - he was pretty much obsessed with it!
Seeing the chickens for the first time. Look at the pure excitement on his face!!! I love it!
Heading to the coop.
A few of the chickens bolted out of their space and startled Jack a bit. Also, note the shirt that Jack is wearing: Morning Glory Farm is our favorite farm of all, located on Martha's Vineyard. Gerald and I have spent many mornings there drinking coffee and eating their muffins, and we've even brought Jack a few times to play with the pumpkins and romp around the field.
The newborn chicks staying warm. Speaking of chicks, our little chicken Sam was fast asleep in the car. Maybe next time he'll see the animals :)
There was bluegrass music playing at their work station, so we headed over for a little jam session. As many of you know, Jack has some serious rhythm and LOVES music. Especially tunes with a guitar - so bluegrass, clearly, is one of his favorites!
Climbing up on 'stage'. The Newfoundland didn't mind us at all...
Dancing away... the music kept him entertained for about 5 minutes. Not bad (for Jack!).
It was a great morning and we can't wait to go back again! Next time we may even be able to collect some eggs and feed the lambs!
